Australian big wall street artist Matt Adnate has been selected as the namesake artist for the forthcoming Art Series hotel in Perth, which is due to open to guests in October this year.

Adnate is renowned for creating enormous spray paint murals of Indigenous Australians on the sides of buildings or in some cases, on the side of multi-storey high-rise towers. Art Series Perth will now represent Adnate’s toughest challenge, with a 27-storey “mega mural” featuring the faces of Perth’s cultural history set to become the largest building adorned by one of his artworks.

The mega mural will consist of three portraits – one representing traditional Indigenous culture, one made up of contemporary faces and one featuring the city’s indigenous youth.

In addition, a Laneway Mural spanning more than 50 metres in length will be installed, showcasing multiple portraits, completed in conjunction with a local artist. Inside the hotel, a staircase mural will give a unique look to the hotel’s interior. A further two original artworks will be placed around the hotel, along with reproductions of some of Adnate’s most recognised works, which will adorn the walls and rooms throughout the hotel.

The 250-room Art Series Perth, henceforth to be known as ‘The Adnate’, has been developed by architect George Atzemis, with construction on the building beginning in late 2017. The hotel was first announced during AHICE 2019 in Melbourne.

Adnate has already commenced his decorative work at Art Series Perth

Adnate said he was honoured to have an Art Series hotel dedicated to his work.

“What excites me most about this collaboration with Art Series is the opportunity to capture the stories and emotions of my subjects and to share them with a new audience in the west.

“I’ve always held a personal connection towards the First Nation people I paint. Whether it be a connection to country or a strong emphasis on spirituality, I believe we have a lot to learn from these people.”

Accor COO Pacific, Simon McGrath said The Adnate would become an iconic landmark in Perth, with the murals to be visible from the city centre for everybody to enjoy.

“Matt is a next-generation artist who reflects the expansive view on Australian art. His unique artistic style and experience with painting large-scale murals in main cities around Australia and the world made him the ideal namesake artist for the scale and design of our newest Art Series hotel in Perth.

“This hotel heralds the arrival of the Art Series brand in Western Australia and demonstrates our commitment to growing this iconic Australian hotel brand – Australia’s only boutique hotel brand creating art inspired experiences for guests,” he added.
