Lifestyle hotel brand The Standard is set to debut a new global hotel concept StandardX with its first opening in Melbourne in February 2024.

Described as “the rebellious younger sibling of The Standard”, the new concept takes the iconic brand back to its roots, while retaining a classic Standard experience with minimalist rooms, cultural programming and intuitive hospitality.

The StandardX, Melbourne – the first hotel from The Standard in Australia – will be located in Fitzroy and will reflect the rebellious spirit of the suburb’s ‘heyday’ of the 70s and 80s.

The hotel, which was first announced in 2021, was originally intended to be The Standard, Fitzroy.

The 125-room hotel, with interiors by Melbourne design firm Hecker Guthrie, features a contemporary aesthetic that spans eight floors.

Its unique public spaces include an airy elevated loft with a fireplace, columns wrapped in macrame by local artist Sarah Smalltown and paintings from Dane Lovett, which are complemented by custom furniture and antique pieces.

Guest rooms follow a palette of blue and white and feature a millwork ledge that doubles as a writing corner and open closet.

The Roof offers a Mexican dining experience, led by Executive Chef Justin Dingle-Garciyya, exclusive to hotel guests with panoramic views of Fitzroy and Melbourne.

The hotel also features all-day Thai restaurant Bang, and retail offering, The Box, which offers essential items, snacks and beverages.

Standard International is set to take the new The StandardX brand to Bangkok, Brooklyn, East Austin and more in its global expansion.
