Choice Hotels Asia-Pac will open its 15th Ascend Hotel Collection property in Australia New Zealand this month on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

First Light Mooloolaba will feature 67 self-contained one-to-three-bedroom apartments, a pool and gym.

One of the newer buildings in the area, the hotel has a modern feel and is expected to appeal to both leisure and corporate guests.

The opening comes as the Ascend Hotel Collection celebrates its 15th anniversary.

“We’re delighted that First Light Mooloolaba is becoming the 15th Ascend Hotel Collection property in ANZ in the same year the brand is the celebrating 15 years in market,” said Choice Hotels Asia-Pac CEO, Trent Fraser.

“This all-apartment hotel, with its home-away-from-home luxuries, is the perfect example of what makes properties in the Collection so special.”

Fraser welcomed the return of First Light Mooloolaba’s franchisees, Chris and Olivia Taylor, to the Choice family. They had previously operated one of the group’s very first Ascend properties in this market.

“There has been so much growth within Choice,” said Olivia Taylor.

“Now we are joining as the 15th Ascend in ANZ, we are excited to see where we can take our business.”

The upscale Ascend Hotel Collection is designed for travellers seeking “unique experiences in exceptional surroundings”. It is a membership of more than 320 independent hotels open or in development in 15 countries.

First Light Mooloolaba is the second Ascend Hotel Collection opened by Choice this quarter following the launch of a Takayama City hotel in July.
