Marriott International has partnered with International College of Management Sydney on a new apprenticeship-style degree program

Marriott International is investing in hospitality education and developing its teams of the future with the launch of an apprenticeship-style program through the International College of Management Sydney (ICMS).

The four-year hotel degree program will give hospitality students from ICMS the opportunity to work at numerous Marriott properties, and each year a High School graduate will be offered a spot on the program.

During the Marriott International-ICMS Hotel Management Development Program, students can undertake a paid work placement at a different hotel each year, giving them the opportunity to travel interstate and work across a diverse range of brands.

Marriott said students will receive a competitive wage during their program and time off to attend their ICMS structured classes.

“We are thrilled to launch the first-of-its kind hotel apprenticeship-style program in Australia in collaboration with the International College of Management Sydney,” said Marriott International Area Vice President – Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, Sean Hunt.

“We have always placed strong emphasis on rewarding our high-performing associates through internal development, training and promotion. Our partnership with ICMS allows us to open the door to new talent to join our teams and experience the industry as they’re starting out through the lens of our people-first culture.”

In the first two years of the program, students will gain practical experience working in various operations departments, before progressing to team leader roles in the third year. In their final year, they will take part in Marriott’s leadership development program, Voyage, which offers hotel-based training across disciplines such as finance, food and beverage, event management, human resources, revenue management and more.

On graduating, Marriott said it will offer graduates a management position within six months.

“We are proud of our alliance with Marriott International which will position our Bachelor of Hospitality Management students as sought after graduates within the hospitality industry,” said International College of Management, Sydney CEO and President, Rowan Courtney O’Connor.

‘’When experiential learning meets theoretical knowledge, such as within this alliance, the results are highly employable ICMS hospitality graduates who can add value to Marriott International, just as this global hotel chain is offering them this great opportunity for career growth.”
