NSW Premier Hon Dominic Perrottet highlighted the importance of infrastructure developments to the vibrancy of Sydney’s CBD at the recent opening of Australia’s first-ever Kimpton, Kimpton Margot Sydney.

Premier Perrottet, Minister Stuart Ayres and Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore joined 170 others to celebrate the opening, where a plaque was unveiled to commemorate the occasion.

A partnership between Pro-invest Group and IHG Hotels and Resorts, the hotel first opened to guests in February.

The Lord Mayor talked about the role the hotel can play in Sydney’s strong arts and heritage culture. Last week, the hotel was announced as the Official Hotel Partner for the Sydney season of Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

“This is a special occasion for Pro-invest Group,” said Pro-invest Group Chairman, Ronald Barrott.

“We established this company in 2010 to bring a new operating model to the Australian hotel and hospitality sector – not just to build one of the country’s biggest hotel portfolios but to apply the expertise of a skilled hospitality leadership to creating unique properties offering new levels of personalised service, operating efficiency and sustainability.”

Built in 1938-39 in art deco style, Barrott described the hotel as “an exquisite piece of Sydney history”.

“This heritage-listed building now offers sustainable and ethical accommodation to modern travellers from across the globe,” he said.

“It’s part of a new breed of hotels that form an integrated part of visitors’ local experience, with Sydney architecture, food, and views on offer from the moment you step inside.”

Barrott said 2022 will be a very significant year for Pro-invest Group with eight hotel openings.

“Challenges remain, but the clear feeling is that Sydneysiders and visitors to Sydney want to enjoy the beauty of what this city has to offer once more,” he said.

“Premier Perrottet’s Government has played an important role in facilitating the opening up of the hospitality industry in an expeditious and measured way. And local visitors and business are supporting each other in a way that will see a fast and successful recovery.”
