The Canberra Labor Club in Belconnen is nearly ready to open its adjoining Mercure hotel.

Accor is putting the final touches on its second Mercure-branded hotel in the Australian Capital Territory, with the 125-room Mercure Canberra Belconnen now taking bookings and on-track for opening on 22 January 2020.

The midscale brand’s newest presence in Canberra is located around 8kms from the city centre and near major shopping, education, recreation and government offices and facilities.

In partnership with Canberra Labor Club, the hotel is a newbuild and feature 125 rooms. It has been constructed effectively as an extension of the club, accessible via a connecting walkway and providing all hotel guests with access to its food, beverage and entertainment facilities.

The hotel itself will offer guests additional food and beverage facilities, a fitness centre, laundry facilities, a lobby lounge, onsite parking and a number of meeting and conference spaces.

Accor Pacific Chief Operating Officer, Simon McGrath, said Canberra was experiencing a wave of renewed interest from investors and developers.

“Accor enjoy partnering with clubs by adding an accommodation offering to their already successful business, by enhancing the existing club’s facilities to the benefit of its members, and also attracting new business and leisure guests.”

Rooms feature state-of-the-art technology including Smart TVs, Chromecast and WiFi along with comfortable furnishings such as workstations and plush bedding.
