Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets is now open to guests.

South Australia has joined the queue for a Hotel Indigo branded property after InterContinental Hotels Group confirmed it would bring the artistic themed offering to the City of Churches.

Due to open in 2020, the Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets will be positioned in the heart of the ultra-trendy farmers markets precinct and will feature 137 rooms spread across a 16-storey newbuild on the aptly-named Market Street. Construction on the property, a partnership with Primefield Property Pty Ltd, will begin shortly.

Public facilities will also include a fitness centre, swimming pool and sundeck on level four and a variety of meeting and function spaces. A rooftop bar and café will relish in the abundance of fresh produce available just across the road, with much featuring on a carefully curated menu and wine list.

It will be the sixth Hotel Indigo in Australasia after Brisbane Fortitude Valley, Melbourne Docklands, Sydney Central, Melbourne Little Collins Street and Auckland.

Adelaide’s Central Market has been in operation for nearly 150 years and is one of the city’s cultural icons and landmarks, where growers proffer their agriculture and products for commercial and private buyers. It is known as a hub for fresh fruit and vegetables, homewares, meat and seafood, artisan breads, arts, crafts and cafes.

Keeping true to the Hotel Indigo’s commitment never to replicate one hotel after another, the new Adelaide location will be themed in line with the local neighbourhood, with each room and public space drawing on the story of the local area to help guests immerse themselves in the destination.

Abhijay Sandilya, IHG’s Senior Director of Development – Australasia said the new property would complement the company’s existing Holiday Inn Express and InterContinental hotels along with the soon-to-open Crowne Plaza Adelaide.

“Australia loves the Adelaide Central Markets, and for good reason. It’s a local destination that has developed its own distinct identity and culture, so we know that visitors will love a hotel that can capture that essence and deliver a unique experience. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the signing of Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets, an upper upscale accommodation for the inspired traveller.”
