Hobart is set to welcome its largest hotel next month (July 2017) following the signing of an agreement between AccorHotels and Singapore developer, Fragrance Group who will open a new-build hotel under the ibis Styles brand.

The AUD$50 million new-build ibis Styles Hobart, located in a prime position on Macquarie Street within close proximity to major tourism attractions, is currently in final stages of construction and due to open in July.

The project has created employment for around 230 construction related jobs locally through Hutchinson Builders.

With 296-rooms spanning 10 floors, the hotel will be the largest in the Tasmanian capital city and bring much needed design-led affordable quality accommodation to Hobart.

“We are thrilled to establish our presence in Hobart with a cutting-edge and vibrant hotel in ibis Styles Hobart,” said AccorHotels Chief Operating Officer, Simon McGrath.

“The hotel will add a new dimension to the local hotel sector offering world-class quality accommodation with animated food and beverage design while remaining an affordable option for travellers.

“We are pleased to be entrusted this project by Fragrance Group and manage their first hotel in Hobart with our ibis Styles brand.

“Not only will ibis Styles Hobart be the largest hotel to open in the city, but it will build on the already substantial brand growth in the Pacific region as exemplified by the recent opening of ibis Styles Brisbane Elizabeth Street,” he said.

Ibis Styles Hobart will boast a rooftop indoor heated lap pool, two saunas, a gymnasium and free WiFi throughout. A number of rooms will have views over the River Derwent.

Hobart locals and hotel guests will enjoy a ground level bar and restaurant, named Mr Good Guy, which will serve up Asian street food and quirky drink menus. A meeting room is also available in the hotel for intimate gatherings and there is onsite car parking.

The hotel, designed by X Squared Architects has been registered to receive a 5-star Green Star sustainability rating and will employ 65 people once operational.

“We at Fragrance are equally excited to deliver the first of three hotels planned for Hobart,” said Fragrance Group CEO, James Koh.

“Ibis Styles Hobart will be a fresh addition to the already vibrant city and we look forward to providing bigger and better quality hotels for the ever increasing number of visitors to Tasmania.”

Once open, the hotel will become the 70th ibis Styles branded property to open in the Asia Pacific region and complement AccorHotels existing hotels in Tasmania; The Sebel Launceston and Mercure Launceston. Ibis Styles Hobart will join AccorHotels’ ibis megabrand network of hotels (ibis, ibis Styles, ibis Budget) across every other mainland state capital in Australia and over 2,000 hotels encompassing more than 210,000 rooms worldwide.
