DoubleTree by Hilton has added another Australian property, signing the 180-room DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne Flinders Street.

Located on 270 Flinders Street in Melbourne, this property will join Hilton Worldwide’s portfolio of 22 hotels in Australasia on December 1, 2014.

Owned by M&L Hospitality and currently trading as Citigate Melbourne, the property is currently undergoing significant renovations in the lobby, restaurant, bar, meeting rooms and bedrooms.

“M&L Hospitality is delighted to be expanding its relationship with Hilton Worldwide in Australia with the signing of the DoubleTree by Hilton in Melbourne,” said Neil Maxwell, Chief Executive Officer of M&L Hospitality.

“The agreement builds on our strong existing partnerships with Hilton at properties in Japan and New Zealand. DoubleTree by Hilton is an exciting and contemporary hotel brand and we are proud to be bringing the first property to Victoria, as part of our Australian portfolio of four hotels.

“We have undergone extensive renovations and refurbishments at the property in recent months and we are sure that guests will enjoy the new aesthetics, which have been overseen by leading designers Melissa Chen and Michael McCann,” he said.

The newly refurbished hotel will be converted and unveiled as a new DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in December, and will be managed by Hilton Worldwide.

“We are excited to announce yet another DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Australia, extending our presence in one of our most important growth markets,” said John Greenleaf, global head, DoubleTree by Hilton.

“Every aspect of this hotel is being thoughtfully renovated to ensure our guests enjoy a world-class experience throughout their stay.

“We look forward to welcoming guests at the DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne – Flinders Street with our DoubleTree hospitality and service culture which begins with a warm chocolate chip cookie presented to every guest at check-in,” he said.

DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne – Flinders Street will join Hilton Worldwide’s well-established Hilton on the Park Melbourne and Hilton Melbourne South Wharf hotels.

“Hilton Worldwide has a proud forty-year history in Melbourne and we are extremely pleased to be furthering our footprint in Melbourne, whilst expanding the presence of the DoubleTree by Hilton brand in Australia,” said Ashley Spencer, Hilton’s Vice President of Operations – Australasia.

“Melbourne is an exciting and creative city; renowned internationally as Australia’s heart of culture, and home to a range of world-class sporting events and a thriving business centre.

“These characteristics have provided us with a great opportunity to widen DoubleTree by Hilton’s presence in such a desirable destination,” he said.
