InterContinental Auckland is gearing up to open its doors to guests on January 30, 2024, within the NZ$1 billion Commercial Bay lifestyle precinct.

Located at 1 Queen Street, the 139-room luxury hotel will bring the outside in with scenic city and water views and offer culturally rich experiences for travellers.

Led by General Manager, Ryan South, who brings over two decades of experience at IHG Hotels and Resorts in Australasia, Indonesia and the Pacific, the hotel employees an experienced and dynamic team of 100.

“I’m thrilled to be back in Auckland to helm what is set to be an icon in the heart of the city,” said South.

“I’m looking forward to giving both New Zealanders and international visitors a taste of this vibrant city, as well as the sophistication of the InterContinental lifestyle.

“Alongside our partners, Precinct Properties, we’ve worked tirelessly over the past year to ensure this hotel is ready to welcome guests and offer the signature InterContinental experience guests expect from the world’s first and largest luxury hotel brand.”

The Waitematā Harbour waterfront restaurant and bar will serve up Middle Eastern-inspired cuisine, using New Zealand’s finest produce, in partnership with internationally renowned chef, Gareth Stewart.

Advieh, which translates to ‘spice’ in Persian, will offer all-day dining with a menu designed to share.

“I’m confident there is nothing like Advieh in Auckland and I’m looking forward to surprising guests in the best possible way and creating a world-class restaurant and bar experience,” said Advieh Partner Che, Gareth Stewart.

InterContinental Auckland was designed by Warren and Mahoney with five key elements in mind: a focus on New Zealand food and wine; international appeal; ethical and locally sourced materials; seamless transitions from day to night; and acknowledgment of the site and its surroundings.

It features a comprehensive art collection, featuring local and Iwi artists, that is heavily influenced by Māori culture.

An installation designed by international contemporary artist Nike Savvas is on display in the lobby, and photos by New Zealand artist Fiona Pardington hang in each room.

An extraordinary woven panel known as a Whariki, has also been supplied for each room by the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei weaving collective.

The exclusive Club InterContinental lounge is set to open in June 2024, while a rooftop bar on level 21, independently owned by renowned hospitality business Five Fellas, is also in the works.
