Radisson Hotel Group is set to make a strong statement on sustainability during the COP28 climate conference in Dubai through the introduction of net zero stays.

During the 13 days of the conference – between November 30 and December 12, 2023 – RHG’s entire United Arab Emirates (UAE) portfolio of 16 hotels will become net zero with regards to scope one and two emissions.

The initiative, known as ‘Net Zero Nights’, centres around Renewable Energy certificates and Certified Carbon Credits.

During the COP28 conference, Radisson Hotel Group will purchase Renewable Energy Certificates (iRECs) to neutralise electric emissions, while non-electric emissions will be addressed through Certified Carbon Credits.

The carefully selected carbon credits are from a project in the Rimba Raya reserve in Borneo, dedicated to preservation of endangered species, including the Bornean Orangutan.

As part of its commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2050, Radisson Hotel Group is undertaking a series of measures, including greening hotel buildings, transitioning to renewable energy, and hosting carbon-neutral meetings to continuously reduce its environmental footprint.

In the UAE, the group hosts green building showcases such as the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek, which is at the forefront of innovation with the installation of a thermodynamic solar system that uses solar panel blocks and a heat pump for hot water production.

The Radisson RED Dubai Silicon Oasis is another green building hotel, which was certified LEED Platinum in April 2021, resulting in annual energy cost reduction of more than 22% and water use reduction of 50%.

Radisson Blu Resort, Fujairah has also pursued water and energy savings by installing aerators in all guestrooms and a thermodynamic solar system for hot water production. The resort also recycles water through a grey water treatment plant to be used for irrigation purposes.
