Mandarin Oriental is set to make its arrival in Zurich with a city centre hotel opening over the coming months – the northern hemisphere winter.
Following a multi-million-dollar renovation of an iconic property – which was Zurich’s first grand hotel, dating back to 1838 – Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich promises to offer “timeless elegance with modern sophistication and exceptional service”.
Located on the famous Paradeplatz, the hotel is close to high-end fashion houses, the historic old town and the promenade leading to Lake Zurich.
Interiors by Paris-based designer Tristan Auer merge historical details with modern style giving a contemporary look that contrasts with the building’s architecture and colours that mirror its surroundings. Meticulously crafted design elements and materials include artisan hand-painted silk wallpapers.
The hotel will be home to some of the city’s largest suites, including a four-bedroom apartment spanning 275sqm. Many of its 44 rooms and 36 suites feature balconies, terraces or private rooftops with views of city landmarks and the Swiss Alps.
The hotel features four dining venues including fine-dining Italian restaurant Orsini, led by Consultant Chef Antonio Guida, from two-Michelin-starred Seta restaurant at Mandarin Oriental, Milan; French-inspired Savoy Brasserie and Bar offering all-day dining and signature cocktails; the Mandarin Lounge; and the 1838 rooftop bar.
The hotel is expected to be sought after for weddings, parties, celebrations and corporate functions, with its grand ballroom now restored to its former glory.
