EVT Hotels and Resorts has taken over management of Sydney’s Tank Stream Hotel after signing a deal with owner IGB Berhad to ultimately transform the property into a Rydges hotel.

Located in the heart of the CBD, adjacent to Australia Square, the property features 273 rooms and a level two restaurant and wine bar, Le Petit Flot.

Initially placed as part of the Independent Collection by EVT, the hotel will undergo a staged refurbishment over the next nine months before rebranding as Rydges Australia Square in mid-2024.

It will become the 45th Rydges in the portfolio across Australia and New Zealand.

“We are thrilled to be undertaking an exciting new partnership with IGB Berhad,” said EVT Director of Hotels and Resorts, Norman Arundel.

“The Tank Stream is currently the perfectly positioned Sydney CBD hotel, and when the refurbishment is complete the property will be a great addition to the Rydges portfolio of hotels and resorts.”

The refurbishment will encompass guest rooms, the ground floor and first floor, as well as food and beverage areas.

As the new operator, EVT said it will bring expertise across food and beverage, conference and events, marketing, distribution and revenue services.

IGB Berhad CEO, Boon Lee Tan, said the company is pleased to partner with EVT and present a new Rydges hotel to the market.

“We are delighted to have a hotel under the Rydges brand by next year, which enjoys such a strong presence in Australia,” Boon Lee Tan said.

“We believe EVT’s experience, local agility and track record of market leading results will bring significant value to the future success of the property.”

Rebecca Hamey – former General Manager of QT Bondi – has been appointed General Manager of the Tank Stream Hotel.

With more than 15 years’ industry experience under her belt, Hamey is looking forward to overseeing the renovation of the property.

“It is hard to beat the location of the hotel, and I am looking forward to working with the team to transform the property and to bring the refreshingly local service that Rydges is famous for to our guests,” she said.
