The countdown is on to the industry’s night of nights, the 20th HM Awards, presented by Sealy Posturepedic, which is taking place tonight, November 25.

A record crowd of 1,000 hotel industry professionals will descend on The Star Event Centre for this sold-out event that’s become the industry’s annual night of nights.

This year, the HM Awards received almost 2000 nominations, demonstrating the breadth of talent within the industry.

Almost 50 categories will be presented on the night, recognising excellence over a range of categories covering people and departments to properties and chains.

“As the Founder of the HM Awards, I’m excited to see how far the event has come over the past 20 years and the amazing involvement from the industry in Australasia, which saw almost 2000 entries this year, well up from the 1250 we had in 2021,” said HM Awards Founder, Chief Judge and Editor-In-Chief, James Wilkinson.

“Once again, the entries this year – from chefs to housekeepers, five-star resorts and apartment hotels – have been incredible and it has been terrific to see thousands of staff and properties highlight many achievements in a busy year thanks to the huge reboot of tourism.”

This year, People award winners will be split into Australia and New Zealand-Pacific regions, providing an opportunity to further recognise winners from Aotearoa and the South Pacific, also acknowledging the best of the best across Australia.

“Following feedback from the industry, we wanted Australia’s finest to stand out on their own, while also acknowledging the best talent in New Zealand and across the South Pacific region,” Wilkinson explained.

A new category has also been added to recognise the best industry collaboration in Australasia, one that has attracted a number of high-quality entries.

In the last 19 years, over 11,500 people have attended the HM Awards, presented by Sealy Posturepedic, and more than 950 awards have been won by hotels across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
