InterContinental Sorrento Mornington Peninsula

IHG has introduced a luxury seaside property in Victoria’s popular tourist hotspot of Sorrento on the Mornington Pensinsula.

InterContinental Sorrento Mornington Peninsula takes centre stage at The Continental – an 1875 heritage site that has been transformed into a modern food, beverage and wellness destination.

The hotel, which opened on August 1, joins IHG’s growing Luxury and Lifestyle Collection.

“We are in one of the most exciting periods of growth and transformation across our Luxury and Lifestyle portfolio,” said IHG Managing Director, Australasia and Pacific, Matthew Tripolone.

“The opening of InterContinental Sorrento Mornington Peninsula is wonderful milestone in our vision to bring the InterContinental Life to the world’s most sought-after destinations, and we have no doubt that the brand-new experiences will offer a memorable stay for both locals and international visitors alike.”

Designed by Woods Bagot as a modernised coastal retreat, the property celebrates the Victorian and Deco eras of the local area with original elements carefully restored, and old photos of Mornington Peninsula beach parties from the 19th and 20th century among the extensive art collection.

There are 108 rooms and suites across the original limestone building and in a newly built wing that feature private outdoor terraces, and penthouses will be introduced later in the year.

The property also features a guest-only pool deck, 24-hour Fitness Centre, two restaurants – including seafood restaurant Audrey’s by acclaimed Melbourne chef Scott Pickett – a beer garden, front bar, and speakeasy venue.

The restored Grand Ballroom will be used for private events, and the hotel spa, Aurora Spa and Bathhouse, will open later this year within a thermal bathhouse and wellness centre.

“Sorrento’s heritage as a place to escape to has been reimagined with a serious dash of glamour and an array of ways to unwind, celebrate and retreat, but we can’t wait to welcome our guests from both near and far with our service,” said InterContinental Sorrento Mornington Peninsula General Manager, Adam McDonald.

“InterContinental is a much-loved brand across the globe, renowned for its worldly know-how and service style – we’re looking forward to sharing a truly international hotel in this very special part of the world.”

Tripolone thanked the owners and partners Victor Smorgon Group, the Kanat Group, Trenerry Property Group and the Du Group for their work to redevelop this iconic property.
