Accor has expanded its network in regional Queensland with the franchise signing of Mercure Rockhampton, marking the hotel giant’s first presence in the cattle heartland township.

The 74-room Mercure Rockhampton will be rebranded from its former identity as Travelodge Rockhampton as part of the change in management. The move continues the regional expansion of the Mercure brand, which now numbers over 50 in Australia and New Zealand and more than 800 worldwide.

The eight-storey hotel is located in the city centre and overlooks the Fitzroy River. Guest facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, fitness centre, 24-hour reception and six flexible function and meeting spaces.

Accor Pacific Chief Operating Officer, Simon McGrath, said he was delighted to welcome Mercure Rockhampton to the company’s network, saying the property now had access to one of the industry’s most talented and well-resourced teams.

“There is no doubt the decade ahead will be one of the most competitive and challenging eras in the history of the Australian hotel industry. However, the uncertainty of recent times unequivocally highlights the benefits of our scale, as well as the market strength of our brands.”
