Rooms take on a raw, vibrant and somewhat industrial complex, with raw concrete and bright colours.

Quirky hotel brand, QT Hotels & Resorts, has offered a sneak peek inside its forthcoming opening in Auckland, revealing its highly contemporary and stylish yet somewhat industrial guest rooms which will delight guests from 1 November, 2020.

Never satisfied with run-of-the-mill, QT’s third property in New Zealand has all the hallmarks of a brand preferring to surprise and delight at every turn. The hotel’s 150 rooms feature the distinctive touch by interior designer and long-time QT collaborator, Nic Graham, who has worked on other Event Hospitality properties including Atura Adelaide Airport. The property is a partnership with Russell Property Group and Lockwood Property Group.

Guests will encounter a blended dark green, grey and rusty gold colour scheme which appears also on the bed runners and cushions. Bathrooms feature brass painted fittings and bi-fold double doors, with exposed raw concrete juxtaposed with bright colours and luxurious furnishings including plush rugs and sofas.

Graham has applied the notion of ‘beauty lies within’, taking inspiration from the theme of discovery and the rough and tumble nature of an oyster trawler which reflects back to the history of the city and its harbourside nature. Bed heads are a luxurious pale brown with corner pieces resembling a classic Oriental gong.

“We have blended contrast and quirk for QT Auckland as we have with each unique QT Property,” he said.

“The idea was onset by my first visit to Auckland and a dozen oysters – the salty sweet is a metaphor for the design, where we have elevated the bold use of colour and created a cocooning interior that uses interesting local materials and suppliers, adding to the harbour-based neighbourhood narrative of QT Auckland.

QT Auckland features 150 rooms and opens to guests from 1 November,

Bookings are now open for QT Auckland from 01 November. At the helm is General Manager, Doron Whaite, who moved to Auckland earlier this year, having previously held roles at QT Sydney and QT Perth.

“The experience philosophy behind each QT is to ‘expect the unexpected’,” Whaite said.

“QT Auckland will certainly deliver this, with unpredictable twists across art and design, throughout the dining outlets, and amplified through our people, delivering a highly-personalised signature service to each guest.”

Guest facilities at QT Auckland include a signature dining concept led by international chef, Sean Connolly, backed by a rooftop bar which will offer panoramic views over Viaduct Harbour.
