IHG launches dynamic rewards system in Australasia

InterContinental Sanctuary Cove is one of many IHG properties reopening on 1 July.

Members of IHG Rewards can now access dynamic points pricing on redemption stays across the company’s Australasian network, with the system now available globally.

Following a successful trial launch in Greater China earlier this year, the new redemption process will see points levels required for each Reward stay fluctuate based on demand and availability, similar to cash rates. All IHG Rewards bookings feature no blackout dates and free WiFi as a booking perk.

In an effort to encourage travellers to get out and see Australia, IHG says many properties have lowered their redemption levels required by as many as 30,000 points, with cost levels remaining flat at worst across the network. More than 83% of IHG group hotels worldwide now operating on dynamic pricing have reduced their redemption amounts to stimulate travel.

Dynamic pricing is now in effect for Rewards redemptions across all of IHG’s Australasian properties, with resorts now swiftly reopening and readying to welcome guests once again. New to the network from 1 July will be Crowne Plaza Hobart, with the same date also seeing Crowne Plaza Terrigal open its doors. Hayman Island by InterContinental will reopen to guests from 1 September.

Crowne Plaza Hobart will mark the brand’s debut in Tasmania.

IHG Vice President of Commercial, IHG Australasia & Japan, Tina Fisher, told HM said the rollout of dynamic pricing was a rewarding and positive initiative for all loyalty members.

“We are all working incredibly hard towards boosting our industry together, so the ability for our loyalty members to access dynamic rates means they can get out and experience beautiful destinations across Australia, New Zealand, or for future bookings further abroad – with even more value,” Fisher said.

“We know from data across our markets where dynamic pricing is already live, that members are accessing lower point amounts in more than 83 per cent of hotels where dynamic pricing is available. It’s a rewarding step and we can’t wait for people to get out and start exploring again.”
