The ongoing COVID-19 crisis has led Stamford Hotels and Resorts to make the decision to close five of its properties temporarily due to the government-imposed travel restrictions.

In a letter from Stamford CEO, Ow Yew Heng, the company said properties in Melbourne, Brisbane, Auckland and two in Adelaide – Stamford Plaza Melbourne, Stamford Plaza Brisbane, Stamford Plaza Adelaide, Stamford Grand Adelaide and Stamford Plaza Auckland – would temporarily close their doors due to a lack of work for staff. The closures take effect from today (31 March).

Two of the brand’s other hotels – Sir Stamford Circular Quay and Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport – would both remain open for the time being, albeit with severe restrictions on services available.

In the letter, Ow said the company was determined to ensure the business overcomes the significant challenges being currently faced.

“Stamford Hotels and Resorts remain committed to working with our key suppliers, clients, partners and staff in the future, and look forward to the time we can resume normal business operations.

“We know that this decision, while difficult, will help protect everyone,” the notice said.
