A new TIANZ scholarship will help four aspiring hotel leaders to boost their job prospects.

Final year hotel management or business students majoring in hotels and hospitality will be eligible to apply for one of four new scholarships launched yesterday by Tourism Industry Aotearoa.

Designed to help fast-track the entry of new graduates into a hotel industry job, the four placements are valued at $3,000 each, with the first to be awarded from 2020. To be eligible, applicants must be in their final year of study.

The move builds on a three-year tranche of initiatives in New Zealand launched at last month’s TRENZ conference involving the introduction of the www.gowithtourism.co.nz website to connect prospective employees with tourism industry jobs throughout New Zealand.

Announcing the new scholarships, TIA Hotel Sector Manager, Sally Attfield said there was now a new stepping stone in place to help graduates find their way into a role within the hotel sector.

“Hotels offer fantastic career opportunities, from guest-facing roles to numerous behind-the-scenes positions that all contribute to running an accommodation property. We want to encourage young people to consider hotel careers.”

Applications for the scholarship placements open later this year.
