Perth’s bustling Elizabeth Quay precinct has another new hotel tenant after the opening last week of Quay Perth, a brand owned by Singaporean management brand Louis T Collection.
The 80-room property takes over the presence formerly occupied by the New Esplanade Hotel, overlooking the Quay and the city’s famed Swan River. The hotel features a ground level all-day dining venue along with rooftop bar and kitchen.
Perth-based interior designer Malvina Stone has overseen the transformation of the hotel from one guise to another, stripping back the façade to its bare bones and working from a blank canvas alongside architects Nicola Gibson, Daniel Bailey and Alda Consultants. Rooms have been designed to reflect a homely Australian feel, with timber features and large windows, ranging in size from 17 to 41 square metres.
Key to the new development is the addition of ‘Level Nine’, a co-working space, designed to attract young professionals and small enterprises to equipped office space with views of the city and river. Facilities include two small meeting rooms which can be combined, 10 individual offices, eight window desks and a communal desk offering space for several workstations. Users can take advantage of private booths for phone calls, kitchenette and office administration facilities.
“We wanted to honour the original building as best as we could whilst pushing the boundaries in terms of style and design,” Stone commented.
“Our intent was to create a hotel with an independent, boutique character that would capture the essence of the city in a new space designed for co-living, co-working and co-playing,” said Louis T Collection Managing Director, Adam Simkins.
