When MACq 01 Hotel launched on the Hobart waterfront in June last year, it was celebrated as Australia’s first storytelling hotel. A range of design and experience elements bring the storytelling concept to life, facilitated in large part by a passionate team of hotel storytellers who interact with guests sharing stories of the Tasmanian character and spirit. As a luxury hotel, MACq 01 also boasts Hobart’s most enviable real estate, exceptional quality fitout, Tasmania’s largest hotel suites and a highly charismatic bar, restaurant and lounge.
Incredibly, MACq 01 was propelled to Hobart’s no.1 spot on Trip Advisor, just 5 weeks after opening – a feat attributable to the strength of its people. With around 110 staff recruited from around Australia prior to launch, MACq 01 has provided a breeding ground for tourism and hospitality professionals, from housekeeping and Butlers to kitchen staff and bar-tenders… oh yes, and storytellers. As demand for MACq 01 has steadily grown, job opportunities have continued to evolve. Current teams have expanded to meet demand and several completely new positions have been created.
The added appeal for job-seekers has been the unstoppable resurgence of the Tasmanian tourism industry, which has become the Holy Grail for tourism and hospitality professionals in recent years. The island’s vibrant lifestyle has become a major drawcard with a range of emerging bars and restaurants; distilleries and vineyards; breweries and cideries – all set against a backdrop of relaxed beachside living. In Tasmania, sailing to work suddenly becomes a more realistic dream.
The group responsible for developing MACq 01 (Federal Group Tourism) are also responsible for The Henry Jones Art Hotel and Saffire Freycinet – two more hotels that also pride themselves on immersing guests in the Tasmanian culture and spirit. So what does this mean for job-seekers? Well, employment at one hotel means opportunities at all three.
