The Art Series Hotel Group has ended months of speculation by announcing it is proceeding with a development on its Walkerville site in Adelaide that will include a hotel, apartments and commercial space.

Art Series – which has successfully developed and operated The Cullen, The Olsen and The Blackman in Melbourne – has again decided to name the property, set to open in September 2013, after another prominent Australian artist, this time honoring Indigenous painter Tommy Watson.

“We always wanted to include an indigenous artist in the Art Series Hotel Group and are delighted to have such a preeminent indigenous artist in our fold to celebrate and educate our guests about this important aspect of artistic expression in Australia,” said Art Series Hotel Group founder Will Deague.

While the specifications of the development are yet to be revealed, Deague has confirmed the building will be nine stories and will include rooms and suites with views of the Adelaide Hills, the city’s CBD and the River Torrens. Restaurants, a pool and health club and a business centre are also planned for the Walkerville property.
