Sir Richard Branson has officially announced the name and opening date of his new safari camp in Kenya.

Originally reported in the December 2011 edition of HM magazine, Branson’s Kenyan property, set to open in 2013, will be named Mahali Mzuri and operate under his Virgin Limited Edition collection.

“I’m thrilled to be able to announce Mahali Mzuri as the latest addition to the Virgin Limited Edition collection,” he said. “With such a beautiful and serene setting, Mahali Mzuri will undoubtedly offer a unique African experience like no other and as with all our other properties it too will offer great service and fun in true Virgin style.”

Located 240 kilometres due west of Nairobi, Mahali Mzuri, which means ‘beautiful place’ in Swahili, will feature 12 sleeper tents capable of hosting a maximum of 24 guests.

Rates will start at USD$580 per person, per night (twin share) and will include all meals, drinks, daily game drives and unlimited access to the Olare Orok and Motorogi Conservancies.

Mahali Mzuri will employ 50 staff and according to Virgin, there will be a “commitment to keep recruitment and procurement as local as possible”.
