IHG Hotels and Resorts is set to bring its Crowne Plaza brand to Sydney’s western city of Parramatta following the signing of a 217-room hotel with developer-builder Urban Property Group (Urban).
Scheduled to open in 2029, Crowne Plaza Parramatta will be centred in a new landmark mixed-use development, positioned opposite Parramatta Train Station.
The new hotel will feature an all-day restaurant, intimate lobby bar, flexible meeting and event spaces, a rooftop infinity pool with an outdoor terrace.
“We’re delighted to partner with Urban and maximise this exceptional opportunity to bring our world-famous Crowne Plaza brand to Parramatta at a pivotal time in the city’s transformation,” said IHG Hotels and Resorts Managing Director, Australasia and Pacific, Matt Tripolone.

“Western Sydney is one of Australia’s most dynamic growth corridors, underpinned by record levels of infrastructure investment, a flourishing business and government sector, and the arrival of Western Sydney International Airport in 2026.
“Crowne Plaza Parramatta will be a flagship destination for both domestic and international travellers and an important and attractive addition to the city’s evolving skyline.”
Crowne Plaza Parramatta marks Urban’s first foray into the hotel segment.
“We are excited to partner with IHG Hotels and Resorts to bring Crowne Plaza Parramatta to life,” said Urban Co-CEO, Patrick Elias.

“This marks our first-ever hotel collaboration and will become a striking, defining feature within our mixed-use development when it opens in 2029.
“Parramatta is set to play a key role in Sydney’s future as a major city centre, and we are proud to be creating a must-visit destination that combines quality hospitality and unrivalled connectivity for those who work here or visit from home or abroad.”
Crowne Plaza is one of the world’s fastest-growing upscale hotel brands with 415 open hotels and 144 properties in the pipeline.
In Australia, there are 14 Crowne Plaza hotels in operation, including Crowne Plaza Sydney Darling Harbour, Crowne Plaza Melbourne, and Crowne Plaza Adelaide Mawson Lakes, with a further seven in the pipeline.
IHG Hotels and Resorts Director of Development, Australasia and Pacific, Cameron Burke, said the brand is continuing to resonate with owners.
“Crowne Plaza continues to be one of our most bankable brands in Australia, and boasts particularly strong resonance in the Western Sydney market,” he said.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Urban on this landmark development, and to further growing our estate in this strategically important sub-market.”
