Leading hotel architecture and interior design conference, Design Inn Symposium, is expanding to South East Asia with the first event in Singapore to launch in the coming weeks.
The inaugural South East Asia Design Inn Symposium takes place on Wednesday February 26 at Pan Pacific Singapore, as part of the Asian Hotel Industry Conference and Exhibition (AHICE).
A selection of designers and architects will take to the stage, with Australian-born architect and artist, and Singapore local, Richard Hassell, delivering a keynote presentation.
Hassell is the co-Founding Director architectural practice WOHA, alongside Wong Mun Summ. The Singapore-based practice focuses on conceiving integrated architectural and urban solutions to tackle the problems of the 21st century such as climate change, population growth and rapidly increasing urbanisation.
WOHA has received 11 President’s Design Awards, Singapore’s highest design accolade. In 2018, the firm received the prize for the World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival for mixed-use project, Kampung Admiralty.
In his keynote presentation, Form Follows Systems: WOHA’s Sustainable Hospitality Vision, Hassell will discuss hotels not just as places to stay, but as laboratories of sustainable lifestyles.
“Rather than seeing sustainability as an onerous compliance issue, WOHA embraces sustainability as an exciting generator of new architecture and interiors,” according to Hassell.
“Hotels, as rapid lifestyle innovators, can provide us with attractive prototypes for future thriving on a healthy and beautiful planet.”
Hassell will shares insights into the design philosophy behind some of WOHA’s most iconic hospitality projects, from the long-standing success of Alila Villas Uluwatu to the groundbreaking vertical green urbanism of Pan Pacific Orchard, and an ambitious vision of an upcoming net-zero airport hotel in Singapore.
The conference will also feature panel sessions with input from designers, architects, brand strategists and hotel operators.
Topics up for discussion include Designing for Adapting Brands: How To Stay On-Brand While Evolving Over Time; Operations In Design: How Functionality Meets Creativity; and Fostering Connection: Building Resorts That Inspire Community and Wellbeing.
Single passes are available for the South East Asia Design Inn Symposium, as well as an AHICE Delegate Pass, which is inclusive of the two-day conference program, hotel site tours, breakfast masterclass, InnTECH Hotel Technology Summit and Design Inn Symposium and networking events.
