Hotel Grand Chancellor is celebrating the arrival of its first new-build hotel with the opening of a 4.5-star property in Auckland’s CBD on Wednesday September 11.
Located at 80 Wellesley St West – directly across from the soon-to-open New Zealand International Convention Centre in downtown Auckland – the hotel features 191 guest rooms, two F&B venues, dedicated meeting space and fitness centre.
“The investment of the Hotel Grand Chancellor brand in the New Zealand market is a testament to its commitment to providing exceptional hospitality experiences,” said Hotel Grand Chancellor Area General Manager, Steve Martin.
“The Auckland hotel is the first new build for the group, and we’re thrilled to open the doors and welcome guests to this unique and thoughtfully designed property.”
Biophilic design is a key feature at the hotel with native indigenous flora surrounding guests as they enter the cobbled laneway from Wellesley Street. A lush living wall and a trellis of verdant greenery climbs 11-storeys high from the central garden courtyard, bringing New Zealand’s natural surrounds indoors.
Designed in collaboration with Ignite Architects and artist Carin Wilson, the hotel features over 600sqm of public artworks including a nine-storey mural etched into precast panels on the southern façade of the hotel, and nine native birds hidden within the forest landscape.
The Level 1 restaurant, Forester Bar and Grill, can accommodate 80 seated and boasts floor-to-ceiling windows. Long-standing Grand Chancellor Executive Chef Chris Eickhoff delivers a premium produce-led menu with buffet breakfasts and à la carte dinner options throughout the week. Close by, The Glade offers an intimate space with floor to ceiling windows and warm wood panelling catering for up to 20 people for private dining or events.
On the ground floor, Nine Birds cafe serves up coffee, sandwiches, pies, pastries and more for guests and locals.
The hotel’s meeting room is suitable for up to 16 delegates and a pre-function area is available adjoining the bar.
A fully equipped fitness centre on the top floor boasts state-of-the-art equipment and city views.
