Great Place to Work, the global authority on workplace culture, has declared Hilton and Marriott among Australia’s top 10 workplaces employing more than 1000 people.
Hilton claimed the number two spot for the second year running, while Marriott International was fourth, jumping two spots from a sixth place ranking last year.
“We are beyond excited to share that Hilton has once again achieved significant recognition from the Great Place to Work Institute,” said Hilton’s Regional Director, Human Resources, Australasia, Mary Hogg.
“This honour reflects our unwavering commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace.
“Our teams’ passion and dedication are what make Hilton a great place to work. It’s thanks to every team member we have reached this milestone.”
Hilton’s success extends beyond Australia, with its hotels in New Zealand, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea earning Great Place to Work certifications for the third consecutive year – a result that it says highlights its commitment to being a supportive and inclusive workplace.
Marriott International says its continued focus on learning and development has helped the company rise in the rankings.
“Australia’s Best Workplaces’ fourth place recognition is a testament to our commitment to putting our people first and ensuring that their well-being remains at the heart of our organisational success,” said Marriott International Area Vice President, ANZP, Jason Nuell.
“We’re delighted to be establishing a foothold as a leading employer, not only in the region’s accommodation sector, but in the country. Our family of strong global brands, our pipeline of hotels to come, and our powerful loyalty programme Marriott Bonvoy, make us a strong choice for hospitality associates to want to be part of our company.”
Marriott International Area Director HR – ANZP, Natasha Rasheed, said the company is focused on building a workplace where every individual can thrive.
“We believe that by fostering an environment of inclusivity, empowerment, and continuous growth, we create a foundation for our associates to excel personally and professionally,” she said.
Accommodation Australia Chair, David Mansfield, congratulated both companies on their placement in this year’s list, which included 50 companies across four categories.
“To have two hotel groups, and two of our members, in the top 10 is great news for our industry and I congratulate both companies,” said Mansfield.
“Hotels are fun and dynamic places to work. They offer much more than just stop gap-jobs, they are large businesses with endless variety and ample opportunities for promotion, travel and job satisfaction.”
Mansfield and Hilton Area Vice President and Head of Australasia, Paul Hutton, are both hopeful that the accolade will help promote a career in hotels to a wider range of people amid an industry skills shortage.
“In an era where the workplace has evolved tremendously, we understand the growing importance of inclusive and flexible working experiences,” said Hutton.
“Hospitality has always been and always will be a great choice for a career. At Hilton, our commitment is stronger than ever, ensuring we cultivate a culture that not only supports professional and personal growth but also enhances the overall work environment for everyone.
“Our team members come for a job, but stay for a career, finding a place where they can thrive and build their future.”
Hilton named Best Workplace in Asia
For the eighth consecutive year, Hilton was the highest-ranking hospitality company on Great Place to Work’s Best Workplaces in Asia list, taking second place on the top 100 companies in the multinational category.
“We are deeply honored to be recognized once again as the top-ranked hospitality workplace in Asia,” said Hilton President, Asia Pacific, Alan Watts.
“The hospitality landscape is rapidly evolving, and it remains Hilton’s priority to distinguish itself as an employer of choice, and strengthen a culture that values inclusion, growth and innovation.
“As the region’s fastest growing hospitality company, we are well on course to surpass 1,000 hotels in Asia Pacific. As we write our next growth chapter, this presents a huge engine of opportunity for our 62,000 Team Members, the driving force behind Hilton’s success.”
Hilton has introduced a number of HR initiatives focused on inclusion, wellness, growth and purpose to improve the employee experience including Thrive@Hilton, which empowers team members to excel, regardless of their background, role, or location.
In China and Japan, Hilton has become the first international hotel company to offer flexible employment to over 17,000 gig workers across over 100 cities in these markets, resulting in over 240,000 shifts completed to date.
“Every day, our Team Members exemplify the spirit of Hilton’s founding purpose – filling the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality, as we serve our guests, our communities and one another,” said Hilton Vice President, Human Resources – Asia Pacific, Patsy Ng.
“This incredible achievement reflects their dedication and passion, and underscores the strong, inclusive culture they have helped build.
“A best-in-class culture attracts the best talents, and the best work experience brings out the very best in our Team Members to deliver the best stays for our guests. As we celebrate our eighth consecutive year as Asia’s leading hospitality workplace, we are more committed than ever to fostering a future-ready workplace that delivers a truly human experience for all.”
Hilton was also recognised as the top-ranked hospitality employer in Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and India – where it was named the country’s top employer across all industries.
