Oakwood

Global apartment brand Oakwood has opened its 13th property in Japan and announced new projects in China and Bangladesh as it seeks to capitalise on recent growth in Asia Pacific.

The brand is planning to double its portfolio by 2025 with the opening of Oakwood Hotel & Apartments Azabu Tokyo in January marking the first of 20 new openings planned for 2022.

“As countries gradually re-open borders and the world progresses against this battle with the pandemic, we have reasons to be optimistic about the travel outlook for 2022,” said Oakwood chief executive officer, Dean Schreiber.

“Over the past two years, we have introduced new brand experiences to augment our portfolio and set new industry benchmarks in response to an emerging segment of sophisticated travellers who push the boundaries of traditional hospitality. Through resilience and creativity, Oakwood has learnt to speak to the post-pandemic traveller’s sense of individuality, penchant for aesthetics and quest for positive social impact.”

Oakwood Hotel & Apartments Azabu Tokyo, which opened on January 14, features 171 apartments, ranging from studio to three-bedroom configurations, to cater to leisure and business travellers.

Oakwood has also formed strategic partnerships to help the brand advance into new regions including its entry into Bangladesh. Oakwood Hotel & Apartments Dhaka and Oakwood Suites Dhaka, both owned by Aara Hospitality, are slated to open in April 2022.

The 89-room Oakwood Hotel & Apartments Dhaka is surrounded by international restaurants and cafes, while Oakwood Suites Dhaka is located in the business district, offering 32 studios and one-bedroom apartments with smart technology, personalised butler, round the clock concierge services and a penthouse Sky Bar for breakfast.

The Asia Pacific expansion also includes the debut of Oakwood Beluxs, a brand that was launched in Mainland China in 2020 for a ‘new generation of travellers’ looking for smart, sustainable and personalised experiences.

The company plans to open 100 Oakwood Beluxs properties in China by 2030, the first three of which are expected to launch in April, August and October 2022 in Dalian, Yantai and Qingdao respectively.
