Ovolo Nishi, Canberra.
Ovolo Nishi in Canberra is taking on an upgraded look and a new wing of rooms.

An investment of AUD$5 million will be made by Ovolo Hotels into a significant upgrade and expansion project at Ovolo Nishi in Canberra, the brand has announced.

A new wing of rooms designed by Luchetti Krelle will be constructed, featuring 16 new ‘micro-hotel’ rooms and one larger suite with a balcony. All new accommodations will follow the existing design of the rest of the hotel. Features of the new rooms include a retro-style writing desk with built-in minibar and an Indian woven string luggage rack which also doubles as a day bed.

Work will also be carried out on the hotel’s public facilities, with a revitalisation set to take place at Monster Bar + Kitchen. Over at Monster Lounge, new high-top bar seating will be installed along with new lounge areas. New Murano glass and a revamped fireplace are also now in place at Monster Salon, which now serves three meals daily and retains views over Parliament House.

Speaking about the new look, Luchetti Krelle Principal and Interior Designer Rachel Luchetti said the hotel will soon adopt a rustic feel with a particular emphasis on hand-crafted detail.

“Largely, we have built on the stunning initial design, bringing in some influences from the existing rooms into the new spaces. Special finishes including the concrete rendering will be included in all new rooms.”

Ovolo Hotels CFO and COO Australia, Dave Baswal, said the company was pleased to be investing further in developing its Canberra offering. The completion date for all works has been scheduled for the second quarter of 2019.
