Businesses in the design, construction, development and brand management sectors are being invited to register their interest in being part of the proposed Tropical North Global Tourism Hub (GTH) planned for Cairns.
Queensland’s state member for Cairns, Michael Healy, today urged companies eager to work on the project at all stages from construction to operation to put their hand up to be considered.
Announced last year, the mooted Tropical North GTH is tipped to become a haven for international visitors. In addition to multiple five-star hotels, the project is calling for integrated resorts including casinos, recreation and entertainment facilities, boutique retail opportunities, high-end restaurants, conference spaces and a variety of attractions including an aquarium and museums.
In addition, the project is seeking “unique, internationally recognised architecture” to help it stand out on the global stage in similar ways that the Eiffel Tower is inextricably linked to Paris and France or the Statue of Liberty to New York City. In partnership with Ports North, the QLD government’s preferred site is the Cityport precinct at Wharf Street, across a total area of 4.4 hectares.
“Now is the time for potential contractors to put up their hand for the opportunity to help deliver a Global Tourism Hub in Cairns,” Minister for Innovation and Tourism Industry Development, Kate Jones, said today.
“We want to make the most of the proposed Cairns Global Tourism Hub for taxpayers,” Minister Jones added.
“That’s why it’s important for local businesses to register their expertise which will be presented to the project’s shortlisted proponents.”
