Denis Hennequin made his first visit to Australia as Chairman and CEO of Accor this week (Feb 2), viewing Accor and Mirvac hotels in Sydney and Melbourne, meeting key hotel owners and investors, and getting a feel for the Australian market.

The timing was very significant as Accor’s purchase of the Mirvac hotel group is the first acquisition of a major hotel group in 15 years.

“This was a very important event for Accor,” he said. “This is the first acquisition of a major hotel company by Accor in 15 years, and it shows that we can grow not just organically but by making strategic acquisitions. It is a great signal.”

He told the Accor team in Sydney: “It is very refreshing to be in this part of the world – you really are the new frontier in hospitality.”

Hennequin said that Accor was looking towards the Asia Pacific and Latin America to be the future growth engines for the group.
