The Byron at Byron Resort and Spa is undergoing a AUD$2.1 million refurbishment that’s set to be completed by August 2016.
The Byron at Byron has enlisted the help of architect and interior designer Penny Campbell, of award winning Brisbane firm Haysom Architects, to revamp all suites and central facilities of the property while also maintain the relaxed ambience and rainforest theme throughout.
Penny describes her design inspiration: “I have focused on a Minnie Pwerle art theme for the décor, while also taking design cues from the beautiful natural surrounds of the Resort. The Byron at Byron’s ongoing relationship with the local Arakwal people and local elder Delta Kay also continues to be a key theme.”
Minnie Pwerle well regarded as one of Australia’s greatest female Aboriginal artists, and has had a major influence on the art and design of the Resort.
Minnie’s eye-catching artworks are easily recognisable with her uncompromising brush strokes and expert use of pattern, movement and colour.
She passed away in 2006, when she was in her 90’s and was amazingly still painting to the very end.
There are now four room types throughout the Resort, with the introduction of Premium Suites containing new Nespresso coffee machines and premium fixtures and fittings.
Each of the different room categories are decorated according to their own colour and theme.
The Standard Suites in flame print blue and white, Superior Suites in open flower in warm yellows and oranges, Deluxe Spa in Minnie Pwerle, reds and browns and Premium Suites in calming turquoise/aquamarine tones.

“Our guests’ comfort continues to be our main priority, while also maintaining a look and feel that is in line with the Resorts key environmental aspects.”
Known for being some of the most comfortable beds in Australia, the mattresses from AH Beard are becoming even better with the development of the new signature Byron Recharge Bed. The hotel says this is an innovation in the hotel industry and will feature a beautiful built in floating mattress topper and a mattress that can be flipped for a firmer experience if desired.
There have been a number of upgrades to the Resorts central facilities, suites and conferencing space.
LED lighting has been installed throughout, representing a 70% saving on lighting carbon footprint as well as an improved and dedicated high speed WiFi.
With plenty more in the works, there are plans for a fire pit to be built on the restaurant lawns, restaurant refurbishment, spa extension and the beautiful lotus garden will get roofing, making it the ideal wedding ceremony location.
