Marriott has erected a giant inflatable hotel room in the heart of Sydney to support the homeless.

The room, located in Martin Place, was created to support Mission Australia’s ‘Winter Sleep Out’ campaign and was erected for 12 hours on August 8 to launch the awareness program.

Marriott Australia spokesperson Deborah McDiarmid said the ‘Bubble Room’ is a “clever, totally transparent inflatable room that has the ability to attract a lot of attention, and what better way to celebrate the 25th year of one of the most recognised community fundraising events in Australia”.

“The homeless often say they feel ‘invisible’ and feel disconnected from others,” she said.

“The bubble takes that concept of an ‘invisible’ barrier and demonstrates it in a physical form… when inside, any outside sound is minimum and inside noise is magnified – this makes it impossible to communicate, and the result is a very isolating feeling – and this bubble simply helps to increase understanding of this issue here in our own backyard and build awareness for the Winter Sleep Out which aims to raise AUD$200,000.”

McDiarmid said Marriott Australia is supporting Mission Australia under its Spirit to Serve core value worldwide.
